I can't find how to setup my folder view so that it works as in previous versions (pre xp). Even using Classic View. When I open a folder, it shows on the bottom how many items there are and total size of the items. I thought it was called SUMMARY. I cannot find a parameter to change or a box to click. I'd like XP

I change the 'view' on my desktop... ie: set the view to 'list' then size the folder to what I want when it I open it. and also the 'list' view is in effect or... sometimes everything has changed.... ie: the view is now small icons and the size of the folder has changed.... I can't figure out why it differs.
